And we're not alone: many of our regular customers book their boat getaways year after year in September, when the Mediterranean offers the best conditions of the year and the August crowds have disappeared. Water temperature: September's best-kept secret This is the fact that surprises most visitors: the water in September is warmer than in July . It seems contradictory, but it has a simple explanation. The Mediterranean Sea accumulates heat throughout the summer. July starts with water at around 21-22 degrees, August raises it to 24-25 degrees, and September maintains it between 23 and 25 degrees , sometimes even warmer. The sea takes much longer to cool down than the air, so when September arrives, the coast has been accumulating heat for four months. Result: In September you swim in lukewarm, warm and absolutely delicious water. Without the cold shock that is sometimes felt in early summer.
